OVERALL AIM:
To assist in the management of the development programme at our client, including responsibility for developing and/or engineering products, kitchen trials, product costing, factory production trials, feasibility, and product launch scheduling.
The main responsibilities of the Product Development Manager role are as follows:
- To evaluate new products during the development process through conducting appropriate in-house and external taste panels - and maintain full & accurate records of results.
- To provide technical support to other departments including product cooking times and temperatures, recipe ideas, nutritional data, etc.
- To effect continuous product evaluation of both company and competitors' products (varieties, formulation, and quality), recommending action accordingly.
- To carry out initial ingredient sourcing through close liaison with Technical and Purchasing departments.
- To control and record all development samples across all departments - ensuring feedback and action plans are agreed.
- Manage the process control from development concept to finished production item, organizing production trials, cost, product reviews, and development schedules. Ensure full transfer to Technical and Production at first commercial production.
- Monitor and review the ongoing performance of new products and production requirements as necessary.
- Carry out ad hoc projects and product feasibility reports as required.
The Candidate:
- Degree in Human Ecology/Home Economics/Food Technology or related subject
- Up to 2 years post-graduate experience in a development role or an experienced development chef is essential
- Strong knowledge of brands, values, and processes
- Tenacious and detailed in approach, with a 'can do attitude'
