Motive Technologies is looking for an Engineering Manager, Backend (AI Dashcam Products), who is passionate about building new product features for Fleet Safety and the AI Dashcam software. We need an experienced and ambitious leader who can think architecturally, articulate a compelling long-term technical vision, develop and execute realistic implementation plans, and manage our Engineering team.


  • Define and implement a technology vision for building new product features for fleet & driver safety.
  • Manage the product and business outcomes of the engineering teams.
  • Develop a long-term product roadmap in collaboration with product teams
  • Lead technical design discussions by collaborating with multiple teams including Frontend, Product, Design, Computer Vision & Data Science teams.
  • Drive the execution, launch, and daily operations of functionalities for internal/external customers at consistently high quality, Introduce and continuously evolve cutting-edge development, release, and operations processes
  • Develop, document, and improve best practices and coding standards
  • Hire, manage, and develop a diverse team of highly qualified Engineers. This includes providing expert technical guidance, effective coaching and career development
  • As needed, contribute to development tasks such as coding and feature verifications to assist teams with release commitments, to gain and deepen an understanding of our codebase and business processes

Qualifications


  • Bachelors or Masters in computer science or related field
  • 8+ years of experience in Software Engineering or related domains
  • 3+ years of engineering management experience
  • Experience working with high-throughput and low-latency systems
  • Experience building high-scale distributed systems
  • Have technical depth and breadth in the following areas: agile product development, distributed systems, infrastructure, cloud computing, build tools, front-end engineering, mobile, QA.
  • Ability to perform architectural work, including the development of technical designs and definition of requirements based on an explanation of business issues experienced by internal/external customers and vendors
  • Proven track record as a nimble and proactive thinker and doer, who thrives in an environment that demands excellence
  • A high degree of comfort with short release cycles, owning the full software lifecycle, and deep experience working on a product for public consumption
  • Passion for continuous experimentation and learning, coupled with a desire to make things run faster, and better

Overview

Engineering Manager – Omni POD. We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead our growing Omni POD engineering team. In this role, you will guide architectural and technical decisions, coach and develop engineers, and ensure delivery of scalable, maintainable, and high-performance systems. Responsibilities

Qualifications
  • Experience: 10+ years in software engineering, with at least 2 years in a people management or technical leadership role.
  • Experience: 2+ years of experience in managing engineers direct.
  • Proven track record in building and scaling backend services and distributed systems.
  • Strong knowledge of database design, modeling, and optimization (SQL and NoSQL).
  • Experience with AWS and modern infrastructure tools (Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform).
  • Familiarity with microservices and event-driven architectures.
  • Technical Skills: Background in Java, Golang, Elixir, or Scala (hands-on coding not primary focus, but technical depth is essential).
  • Knowledge of modern development practices (CI/CD, Git, containerization).
  • Exposure to frontend development (React) is a plus.
  • Soft Skills: Strong leadership, mentoring, and coaching abilities.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills across technical and non-technical teams.
  • Ability to prioritize, manage multiple projects, and adapt to changing requirements.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineering Manager to lead our talented engineering team, focusing on distributed backend systems, their scalability, and ongoing development. You will collaborate with engineering leaders across Careem to ensure effective execution and explore new engineering opportunities.

You will be responsible for maintaining key services that power the Careem platform, scaling highly distributed systems, and continuously documenting and enhancing our engineering practices. These large-scale systems handle everything from user requests to payment processing.

  • Lead a team of software engineers to implement high-quality services, including design, development, and deployment of new functionalities.
  • Plan and allocate talent to meet engineering goals. Collaborate with engineering leaders, customers, and peers to share information and improve processes.

  • Mentor developers to improve their skills and advance their careers.

What you'll need:

  • Deep understanding of building scalable distributed systems.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field; Master’s degree is a plus.
  • Several years of experience in engineering management or senior team leadership roles.
  • A passion for talent development.
  • Ability to improve technical development processes.
  • 11+ years of experience.

About the team

At Careem, the mission of the NextGen Programme is to develop our next generation of engineers through a structured learning journey in Clean Code, SOLID design principles, and scalable system architecture. This programme spans all areas of engineering at Careem, including Backend, Frontend, Web, Mobile, Data Analysis, MLOps, Infrastructure, Cyber Security, and QA. The goal is to build a strong foundation of engineering excellence from day one.

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineering Manager to lead a team of talented engineers and graduates who are embarking on their journey in software engineering. You’ll play a critical role in shaping the learning and technical growth of the team, mentoring them through real-world projects and helping them become world-class engineers.

You will be responsible for leading and scaling highly distributed systems, mentoring engineers in best practices, and continuously improving engineering processes. The systems you oversee will be core to Careem’s operations — powering everything from user interactions to payment processing.

What you'll do:

  • Lead a team of engineers within the NextGen Programme, focusing on high-quality service delivery and strong engineering foundations.
  • Drive the design, development, and deployment of scalable distributed systems in a microservices-based architecture.
  • Guide and mentor engineers in applying Clean Code, SOLID principles, and test-driven development.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to solve technical challenges and improve engineering efficiency.
  • Partner with other leaders to shape the technical roadmap and evolve the programme structure.
  • Foster a strong team culture of learning, accountability, and engineering excellence.
  • Maintain a high level of engagement and support across the team through regular feedback and coaching.

What you'll need

  • 10+ years of experience in software development, min 3 years in a management/senior engineering team lead role.
  • You have strong software engineering skills with strong competencies in data structures, algorithms, software design and OOP.
  • Working knowledge of at least one of these Java, Go, Python, .NET.
  • Deep understanding of how to build scalable distributed systems.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field, or equivalent training, fellowship, or work experience.
