Role Overview

The Shipping Manager will be responsible for managing all international shipping operations (export), with a strong focus on express courier (DHL, FedEx, UPS, etc.) and air cargo exports. Key Responsibilities

Export Operations & Shipment Management

  • Plan, organize, and manage daily express courier and cargo shipments for international orders.
  • Arrange bookings with freight forwarders, airlines, shipping lines, and express couriers (DHL, UPS, FedEx, etc.).
  • Ensure proper packaging, labeling, and handling of goods to meet international standards.

  • Negotiate freight rates and contracts with couriers, forwarders, and carriers for both express and cargo shipments.
  • Monitor freight invoices, demurrage/detention charges, and resolve billing discrepancies.
  • Stay updated with tariffs, duties, and global trade regulations; adjust processes to remain compliant.
  • Optimize logistics costs without compromising service quality.

Customer & Stakeholder Coordination

  • Act as the point of contact for shipment-related queries, claims, and escalations.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with couriers, forwarders, shipping agents, and customs officials.

Team & Process Management

  • Supervise and train dispatch/shipping staff on export documentation, customs requirements, and shipment handling.
  • Implement and improve SOPs to maximize efficiency and accuracy in export operations.
  • Ensure adherence to company compliance policies and international standards.

Reporting & KPIs

  • Generate weekly/monthly reports on express and cargo shipments, including:
  • On-time delivery %
  • Cost per shipment (express & cargo)
  • Customs clearance times
  • Duties, taxes, and surcharges
  • Freight claim resolution rates

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's/Master's degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business Administration, or related field.
  • 5+ years of proven experience in handling express couriers (DHL, UPS, FedEx) AND air/sea cargo exports.
  • Strong knowledge of Pakistan Customs rules, export procedures, international trade regulations, and INCOTERMS.
  • Hands-on experience coordinating with freight forwarders, shipping lines, and express couriers.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage shipping line and port operations for all import shipments.
  • Coordinate and maintain effective communication between internal departments, shipping lines, freight forwarders, and customs authorities.
  • Ensure accurate tracking of all shipments and timely delivery of goods.
  • Follow up with clients regarding essential shipping documents and ensure proper documentation for customs clearance.
  • Monitor and manage the complete import process including freight booking, shipment scheduling, customs requirements, and delivery timelines.
  • Handle exceptions, resolve shipment delays, and proactively address issues related to logistics, documentation, and compliance.
  • Maintain strong relationships with clients, vendors, and port authorities to ensure smooth shipping operations.
  • Stay updated with import/export regulations, port policies, and industry best practices to ensure compliance.

Key Skills & Requirements

  • Proven experience in import operations, shipping management, and port handling.
  • Strong knowledge of customs regulations, international trade laws, and shipping documentation.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple shipments simultaneously and work under tight deadlines.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and shipping/logistics management systems.
  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field (Master's preferred).
