Context
Pakistan presently faces serious development challenges due to the worsening state of the environment, increasing pressure on natural resources and climate change. As per the Germanwatch Global Climate Risk Index, Pakistan ranks 8th most vulnerable country to the impacts of climate change. The annual mean temperature has increased by 0.5°C, over the last five decades, with changes in the pattern of precipitation, an increase in glacial melting, rising sea levels and high intensity of flash floods and droughts. The variability in climate and weather patterns has increased the intensity and frequency of disasters which is drastically undermining development in the country. Moreover, Pakistan’s economy remains highly vulnerable to likely future threats posed by climate change and multi-sectoral and holistic mitigation measures must be accorded high priority to mitigate these threats. The Climate Promise initiative aims to improve the cooperation and resilience of local and regional stakeholders to the threats and risks posed by climate change. The project aims to provide support to the Government of Pakistan and its partners in the field of environmental sustainability and increased resilience to climate change at national and sub-national levels. The project will provide technical assistance to government counterparts for effective implementation of Climate Change policies, Nationally Determined Contributions, and compliance to international conventions and will also contribute to enhancing resilience of institutions and communities through implementation of various initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of Project Manager, Climate Resilience Programme, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:
The Project Support Officer will provide coordination and technical assistance to ensure the smooth implementation, monitoring, and reporting of project activities. The role will support planning processes, partner engagement, knowledge management, and day-to-day operational coordination under the guidance of the supervisor;
Key Responsibilities:
• Support the implementation of project work plans and ensure timely follow-up on agreed actions and deliverables.
• Assist in coordinating with internal teams, partners, and stakeholders to support project planning, progress tracking, and information sharing.
• Contribute to the preparation of periodic progress reports, briefs, meeting notes, and oth-er documentation as required.
• Assist in monitoring project indicators, collecting and compiling data, and supporting analy-sis for reporting and learning purposes.
• Support the organization of meetings, field visits, training sessions, and stakeholder consul-tations, including logistical and administrative arrangements.
• Contribute to the development and dissemination of communication and knowledge prod-ucts such as newsletters, success stories, and social media content.
• Provide administrative and coordination support for procurement, recruitment, and other operational processes.
• Maintain proper filing systems (physical and digital) and ensure all project records are up-dated and accessible.
• Assist in tracking donor reporting timelines and compiling inputs for donor engagement and resource mobilization activities.
• Perform other related duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.
Furthermore, UN Volunteers are required to:
• Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and actively participating in UNV activities (e.g., events marking International Volunteer Day);
• Familiarize themselves with and build upon traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country;
• Reflect on the type and quality of voluntary action they are undertaking, including participa-tion in ongoing reflection activities;
• Contribute articles, write-ups, and other materials on field experiences for inclusion in UNV publications, websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.;
• Support the UNV Buddy Programme for newly arrived UN Volunteers;
• Promote or advise local groups on the use of online volunteering, or encourage relevant lo-cal individuals and organizations to engage with the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever possible.
Required Skills and Experience
• Experience supporting proposal writing, donor mapping, or compiling inputs for funding opportunities.
• Exposure to coordinating with project stakeholders, organizing meetings, or supporting community-based activities.
• Ability to assist in preparing communication materials, social media content, or knowledge-sharing products.
• Familiarity with projects related to energy, environment, resilience, climate change, or gender is an asset.
• Experience supporting documentation processes, maintaining knowledge repositories, or organizing reports and project files.
