InterBel Telephone Cooperative, Inc. is looking for a new Network Engineering Manager to join our small, but dynamic and community-minded team! We are working to build the fiber network of the future and currently serve the greater Tobacco & Flathead valley areas. Our headquarters is based in the beautiful Eureka, MT, and this position will be expected to reside within 60 miles of Eureka, with in-person work required.

Overview

The Network Engineering Manager for Fiber Telecommunications is responsible for overseeing the design, implementation, and maintenance of network infrastructure for fiber-optic telecommunications systems. This role involves leading a team of engineers, coordinating with various departments, and ensuring the network operates efficiently and reliably.

Key Responsibilities
  • Team Management: Lead, mentor, and manage a team of network engineers, providing guidance and support to ensure high performance and professional development.
  • Network Design: Oversee the design and architecture of fiber-optic networks, ensuring they meet the company's standards and strategic objectives.
  • Implementation: Manage the deployment of network infrastructure, including the installation of fiber-optic cables, network nodes, and related hardware.
  • Maintenance: Develop and implement maintenance schedules to ensure the network remains operational and issues are promptly addressed.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure all network installations and modifications adhere to quality and performance standards.

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills


  • Formal training/certification in infrastructure disciplines and 3+ years of relevant experience.
  • Proficiency in Network Proxy Technologies.
  • Expertise in network technologies such as Routing & Switching, IP Services, Data Center Technologies, and Optical networks.
  • Strong knowledge of infrastructure disciplines including hardware, networking, databases, storage, deployment, automation, resilience, and performance.
  • Experience in banking, exchange, or technology environments within global organizations.
  • Proficiency with protocol analyzers like Wireshark, Cpacket, etc., and tools like Splunk, SevOne, Thousand Eyes.
  • Ability to learn scripting languages such as Python or Ansible.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Flexibility and ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.

We are seeking a highly skilled Network Engineer with specialized expertise in firewall technologies, L2/L3 routing and switching, and modern data center and SD-WAN architectures. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with Palo Alto, Fortinet, Cisco ASA, and other firewall platforms, along with strong proficiency in OSPF, BGP, and VXLAN EVPN technologies. You should be capable of designing and deploying secure, scalable, and high-performance solutions across enterprise, campus, and small/medium data center environments, including wireless LAN (WLAN) and SD-WAN infrastructures.

Key Responsibilities :

Design, implement, and manage secure and high-availability network infrastructure solutions.

Configure and maintain firewall platforms including Palo Alto Networks, Fortinet FortiGate, Cisco ASA, and others.

Develop and implement network security policies, including firewall rules, VPNs, NAT, and access controls.

Design, configure, and troubleshoot complex Layer 2/3 networks using VLANs, STP, OSPF, BGP, and static routing.

Deploy and support VXLAN EVPN-based fabric networks in enterprise or data center environments.

Design and implement SD-WAN solutions to support distributed enterprise connectivity and application optimization.

Deploy and maintain enterprise wireless networks (WLAN), integrating with wired infrastructure and security frameworks.

Perform in-depth network troubleshooting using packet captures, diagnostics, and logs across multi-vendor environments.

Maintain accurate network documentation, topology diagrams, and operational runbooks.

Monitor network performance and proactively identify and address issues or capacity needs.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams for new deployments, upgrades, and security improvements.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Network Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).

5+ years of experience in network engineering with a focus on firewalls and secure infrastructure.

Strong hands-on experience with Palo Alto Networks, Fortinet, Cisco ASA, and similar firewalls.

In-depth understanding of routing and switching protocols such as OSPF, BGP, STP, and VLANs.

Experience deploying or supporting VXLAN EVPN-based fabric networks.

Familiarity with SD-WAN technologies (Cisco SD-WAN, Fortinet SD-WAN, or similar).

Proficient in configuring and managing enterprise WLAN environments.

Strong network troubleshooting and analytical skills across complex topologies.

Experience supporting data center and enterprise environments.

Preferred Certifications:

Cisco CCNP or CCIE (Enterprise, Security, or Data Center) – highly preferred

Palo Alto Networks Certified Network Security Engineer (PCNSE)

Fortinet NSE4, NSE5, or NSE7

Additional certifications such as JNCIS/JNCIP, CWNA, or SD-WAN vendor-specific certs are a plus
