Role Summary:
PPF is seeking a committed full-time Legal Aid Consultant with expertise in media law and an extensive understanding of the legislative landscape affecting journalists in Pakistan. This vital position involves providing legal assistance, advice, and representation to journalists facing legal challenges. The ideal candidate will possess a thorough understanding of free expression, including what is permitted by the Constitution and its limits, and will have a strong background in media law.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide legal consultation and support to journalists and media professionals on rights, safety, and legal challenges within the legal framework and international standards.
- Analyze and interpret laws impacting the media, with a particular focus on free expression as outlined by the Constitution, including its scope and limitations.
- Develop and conduct training sessions for journalists on legal risks, rights awareness, and safety measures.
- Engage in legal advocacy, identifying legislation used to target media professionals and devising strategies for legal reform to safeguard press freedom.
- Document and analyze cases of legal actions against journalists, collaborating with legal, human rights, and media organizations to advocate for journalist safety and freedom of expression.
