The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at The Aga Khan University is a dynamic academic center serving the diagnostic needs of Pakistan through its extensive clinical laboratory services. The Clinical Laboratory is College of American Pathologists (CAP) accredited, supporting the entire country via its main campus tertiary lab, over 300 specimen collection units, and 13 stat labs across Pakistan. The department comprises five major sections: Chemical Pathology, Haematology and Transfusion Medicine, Histopathology, Microbiology, and Molecular Pathology, each actively involved in research, undergraduate, and postgraduate teaching and training.

The Haematology and Transfusion Medicine section includes three subsections: Routine & Special Haematology, Haemostasis/Thrombosis, and Transfusion Medicine. It aims to provide top-tier hematological care using advanced techniques such as Haematology Automation, Inherited Thromophilia testing, and transfusion services for in-hospital and secondary hospital requests. The section handles referrals for hematology diagnostics from across Pakistan. Residents receive hands-on training during routine sign-outs with faculty and are encouraged to publish research in peer-reviewed journals under faculty supervision.

You should have completed postgraduate training and possess FCPS, FRCS, American Board or equivalent with subsequent clinical, teaching and research experience. For Senior Instructor, You should have at least two years’ experience in a reputable institution.

Applicants for Assistant Professor should have at least two years’ experience as Senior Instructor or equivalent. In addition, they should have demonstrated scholarship through research, publications, and/or contribution to education.

Applicants for Associate Professor should have at least eight years of teaching/research experience in an HEC recognized University with five years' post-terminal experience of teaching and a minimum of 10 research publications in journals recognized jointly by HEC and PMDC, with at least 4 of these publications in the last five years.

Aga Khan University is recruiting a Senior Instructor/Assistant Professor (Research), Institute for Global Health and Development based in Pakistan.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

• preparing comprehensive research proposals and applying for research funding independently and with the team
• designing and implementing research studies, analysing data (if needed), and interpreting and publishing the study findings
• collaborating with colleagues within and outside the institution for research projects and contributing to larger research initiatives, including grant writing, serving on committees, and engaging in scientific discourse and knowledge exchange
• reviewing and monitoring data for quality and providing timely feedback to the field teams
• communicating with and updating the Founding Director, study sponsors, and relevant institutional bodies regarding study progress
• pioneering and overseeing diverse research initiatives, managing research projects, and mentoring junior researchers
• identifying prospective research and funding opportunities and overseeing current and future research endeavors
• overseeing data analysis and writing manuscripts for leading journals
• supporting all educational activities of the IGHD
