The Curriculum Development Specialist –Math & Science is expected to work on the design and development of bilingual teaching and learning materials for Math and Science that includes textbooks, workbooks, teacher's guides and other resource materials for TCF schools, which are part of MTB MLE (Mother Tongue Based Multilingual Education) program which is currently being piloted in District Tharparkar of Sindh). This includes adapting chapters and lesson plans according to the modified framework of language transition from familiar medium of instruction (MOI) to unfamiliar. The MOI of the resources will be Sindhi with increasing use of English as grades progress.
Research:
- Study the MTB MLE research to understand the language framework and the role and positioning of each language in it.
- Research on Language Transition and bilingualism in language transition including bilingual material development.
Material Development:
- Study the MOI transition strategy research and design and develop a set of quality, engaging, student-centric resources in Math and Science in Sindhi and English, drawing upon proven instructional approaches from international contexts and best practices from the local context; which includes modifying chapters, lesson plans and other resources according to language transition framework.
- Review the developed and designed materials.
Collaboration:
- Work closely with freelancers and Graphic Designers in determining an overarching theme to the books and their design.
- Collaborate with multiple departments on a range of projects related to the development of curriculum, student learning outcomes, testing and similar activities.
Training Design and Implementation:
- Develop training modules for teaching Math & Science with Language Transition approach and conducting field training.
Assessments:
- Develop assessments for students to observe the progress and challenges in implementation of the Language Transition Framework.
Field Implementation:
- Classroom observations in the field to observe implementation, successes and challenges of the Language Transition Framework.
Required Skills
- Knowledge and/or experience of Math and Science instruction approaches.
- Strong communication skills in Sindhi, Urdu and English. (Reading and Writing skills in Sindhi are mandatory)
