Specialist, Network of Quality, Teaching and Learning Entity Location Introduction

The Network of Quality, Teaching and Learning (QTL_net) is a global network that was set up with the aim of supporting excellence in our academic programmes, to ensure a strong student learning experience, that enables AKU graduates to meet their programme learning outcomes. QTL_net offers a safe and inclusive space, where faculty can take advantage of a range of services, resources, and programmes on teaching excellence and scholarship of teaching and learning.

Responsibilities

This position will report to both the Director, Teaching and Learning, and Director, Blended and Digital Learning. 

Outcome-based Education:

Reporting to the Director, of Teaching and Learning, you will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing the strategic plan for rolling out the OBE activities for faculty, mainly in Karachi. You will be expected to:

  • work with the Curriculum Advisory Committee (CAC) to provide support and coordination. This includes working closely with the chairs and the members of the committee for academic support and coordination with cross-functional teams across AKU
  • provide input in developing the master schedule for capacity building and implementing the OBE (including budgets) and support the OBE initiatives' operational plan as per QTL_net strategic plan
  • assist in developing and coordinating faculty development programs (workshops, sessions) to improve the understanding and implementation of the OBE across all AKU campuses
  • provide mentorship in enhancing curriculum to ensure that best practices in education are reflected in teaching and learning at AKU
  • provide collaborative leadership and guidance to faculty and instructional staff in developing and delivering courses according to the OBE
  • engage in research-related activities, e.g., literature reviews, data collection, research reports, and other publications
  • work closely with the resource persons and other educational development units within the University
  • write reports on the faculty development activities and meetings conducted for OBE roll-out throughout the year
  • undertake any other reasonable duties that the Director may require or assign.
Digital Learning Strategy:

For DLS-related work, you will report to the Chair of the Digital Learning Strategy (DLS) Working Group and work closely with all members of the DLS Working Group, comprising academics and supporting cross-functional teams across AKU. You will be responsible for supporting activities related to the implementation of the DLS as a member of the DLS Working Group. You will be expected to:

  • support the entity representatives in developing a detailed plan outlining activities, milestones, resources, timelines, budget, and dependencies for the implementation of the digital learning strategy themes 2 and 4 (i.e., “Curriculum Review and Renewal” and “Capacity Building”)
  • support the DLS Working group in seeking relevant approvals and implementing the DLS themes 2 & 4
  • monitor progress, track key performance indicators, and address any issues or risks that may arise during DLS implementation
  • coordinate with internal stakeholders to identify changing needs, requirements, and technology specifications
  • develop and manage communication and training plans to promote awareness and adoption of DLS initiatives
  • ensure close collaboration between all the members of the DLS working group for greater synergy
  • ensure compliance with relevant policies, regulations, and standards governing digital learning, data security, curriculum renewal, and capacity building
  • ensure appropriate documentation of the meetings and decisions
  • managing dashboards and databases of DLS implementation initiatives
  • prepare regular status reports and presentations for relevant stakeholders, including the Quality Assurance Review Committee (QARC) and other members of senior management.
Other Responsibilities:

  • support faculty development work
  • support Unit Reviews
  • promote the reward and recognition of teaching
  • gain fellowship at the Higher Education Academy
  • engage with and support the scholarship of Teaching and Learning
  • support the Manager of the Teachers Academy on strategic development and implementation of the accredited TEACH scheme and the Haile T Debas Teachers’ Academy
  • any other task required of you from the Directors and Vice Provost (QTL).
Requirements

You should have:

  • applicable graduate degree (master level or higher) in education, curriculum development, designing and/or faculty development, or a related field
  • five or more years of experience in a higher education environment managing and/or monitoring complex projects related to curriculum development, digital transformation, change management or educational change, and educational technology
  • experience in budget development, project monitoring, and evaluation
  • high level of independent thinking and creative ability in dealing with diverse groups of people
  • demonstrated understanding of digital learning trends and familiarity with learning management systems and other digital learning technologies
  • proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and project management software
  • excellent collaboration, administrative, and stakeholder management skills
  • analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data and make data-driven decisions
  • excellent oral and written communication skills in English
  • ability to work independently and meet deadlines
  • willingness to travel as needed
  • teamwork and collaboration
