Full Job Description

The Aga Khan University Hospital is a not-for-profit healthcare institute that offers all medical services to their patients under one roof. In addition to the tertiary care hospital in Karachi, AKUH has a network of 4 secondary care hospitals, 30+ Medical Centres, and over 290+ Clinical Laboratories, 30+ Pharmacies in over 120+ cities across Pakistan. It also offers Home Healthcare Services and home deliveries of medicines. The Hospital provides Zakat for those patients who are eligible, and the health systems offers generous Patient Welfare to support those in financial need. In recognition of its high quality and patient safety, the AKUH is accredited by the Joint Commission International (JCI) as an Academic Medical Centre and its Clinical Laboratories are accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP) for fast and accurate testing.

The Nutrition and Food Services Department (NFSD) provides a range of products and services to students, faculty, staff as well as patients and their attendants. It comprises of a team of experienced clinical nutritionists, dietitians, and foodservice professionals. The services are provided through six sections; clinical nutrition, patient meal services, cafeteria & catering services, food production, food safety management and cost control and approximately 13,000-15,000 meals are served in a day.

Responsibilities

 You will be responsible to:

  • assess nutrition within 24 hours of admission, for the visitation, intervention and multidisciplinary liaison relating to assigned in-patients commencing within 24 hours.
  • complete all patient related documentation according to clinical nutrition policies pocedures / system / guidelines / NCMS / BCP plan & reports, protocols, and routine day’s paperwork.
  • conduct & coordinate multidisciplinary round in assigned area and ensure that “Patient Meals” are in compliance with physician diet order and log is maintained.
  • ensure that patient therapeutic / nontherapeutic menus are examined / checked through NCMS prior to each meal service in line with patient individual nutritional assessment e.g. appropriate meal as per physician diet order, patient like & dislikes & food allergies are noted / taken care.
  • patient nutritional assessments and reassessment and inpatient consults as per information from wards, outpatient clinics as assigned.
  • ensure annual nutrition competency-based presentations, Case studies, Continuous medical nutrition education.
  • resolving Patient complains & queries by coordination with ward staff/coordinators and coordination with patient meal services & Production sections.
  • compliance of JCIA clinical nutrition care standards & ISO 22000:2018 food safety management systems & maintaining of relevant records.
  • carry out shift duties and working weekends as per HR policy HR/PP-09
Requirements

You should have:

  • BS Food and Nutrition / Human Nutrition and Dietetics

OR

  • M.Sc. Home Economics majoring in Nutrition

OR

  • M.Sc. (Hons) degree in Human Nutrition w ith preferably registered with PNDS (Pakistan Nutrition & Dietetic Society) as RD (Registered Dietitian)
  • knowledge of clinical nutrition disease specific nutrition care.
  • ability to plan Enteral and parenteral regimes.
  • good knowledge of terminology associated with diet prescription & diagnosis.
  • ability to provide dietary instructions and counselling to patients and their families.
  • ability to communicate and possess high level of interpersonal skills.
